Author Maggie Shen King will read from and discuss her book, An Excess Male.  Called "The Handmaid's Tale of a new generation," the novel is set in near-future China where the One Child Policy and the cultural preference for male heirs have created a society overrun by 30 million unmarriageable men. This updated twist on the age-old marriage plot is a chilling dystopian tale of a government that reacted to a crisis of its own making by redefining the boundaries of marriage and tampering yet again with reproduction in the name of the public good.  The Washington Post, the Barnes & Noble Sci-Fi and Fantasy Blog, and Kirkus Reviews named An Excess Male one of the best books of 2017.  A question-and-answer session will follow.  For more information, visit
