3D Model of West Portal Area on Display

Take Part
Event detail

The Works Progress Adminstration of the New Deal made a model of SF in 1938. The West Portal Library, also built by the WPA 80 years ago, will display part of the model representing nearby areas starting  the week of January 22 for two months.  A piece of the model will be displayed  at each branch and the Main Library, accompanied by events.

On February 23 from 2:00-3:30 there will be an opportunity to gather around the model with some invited experts to commune over what it tells us and what questions it arouses. The next day a Make a Zine program for kids will happen at  2:00 and at 3:30 Harvey  Smith, a scholar of the New Deal, will help us understand the New Deal and  to imagine what a New New Deal might look like. Can San Francisco be more public-minded?

Also plan to come to our Open House to celebrate our 80th birthday on May 4!

A project of the Public Knowledge partnership between San Francisco Public Library and SFMOMA.
