A panel discussion addressing what is a Civic Center, how the San Francisco Civic Center came about and what has happened to it in the last 50 years.

Jim Haas, long time library supporter and Civic Center advocate, has just published his exhaustive book: The San Francisco Civic Center: A History of the Design, Controversies, and Realization of a City Beautiful Masterpiece.

The San Francisco Planning Department has been working on a new public realm plan for the Civic Center for the last several years and has recently presented a final draft plan for public comment. Nicholas Perry, project manager for the Plan and Willett Moss, principal with the firm of CMG Landscape Architects and head of the consultant team, will join Mr. Haas on this panel to discuss their draft and how it relates to the original plans and accommodates the needs of the 21st century.

Copies of Mr. Haas' book will be available for purchase and signing.
