Lynn Downey, the author of Levi Strauss: The Man Who Gave Blue Jeans to the World, has now written the story of a remarkable institution for women, Arequipa Sanatorium, Life in California's Lung Resort for Women.  Lynn has helped to preserve the sanatorium's records for future generations. She will speak this afternoon about the sanatorium and her personal connection to it. This unique facility in Marin County treated primarily working-class women, but provided the same treatment to all.  It was founded September 1, 1911, as an economic experiment in the care of tuberculosis in wage-earning women and closed in 1957.  Following the program, Ms. Downey will have books on hand for sale and signing.
