Queer Latinx History of the Mission's 16th Street Corridor

Event detail

This program was cancelled last month due to high temperatures at the Eureka Valley Branch and has been rescheduled!

The 16th Street Corridor in the Mission was long the heart and soul of San Francisco's Queer Latin community. Jesus "Chucha" Barragan will share some of the history and stories of life on 16th street.

Jesus moved to the Mission in December 1975, helped start the Gay Latino Alliance, and has been a part of the gay Latino community of San Francisco since then. Two members of the alliance, Richard Alvarez and Tony Lopez, founded Esta Noche, San Francisco’s first gay Latino bar which opened on 16th Street in 1979.

Join us for a conversation with Jesus about life on the corridor and his thoughts on the future.
