SF Reads

A Citywide Celebration of the Written Word

Once you’ve finished reading Zeitoun, San Francisco’s 2010 One City One Book selection, get prepared for a fall filled with literary events.

Once again, One City One Book joins forces this year with Litquake and Friends of San Francisco Public Library’s Big Book Sale in collaborating on SF Reads, a citywide celebration of the written word and the remarkable literary community in our midst.

SF Reads offers three diverse ways to be involved: through a citywide book club; the West Coast’s largest literary festival; and the biggest book sale this side of the Mississippi.

The One City One Book program runs from September through October. Among the key events is an evening with Zeitoun author Dave Eggers in conversation with local writer Beth Lisick on October 14 in the Koret Auditorium at the Main Library. Other featured events include reading and discussion groups, films and programs for teens and adults at the main and branch libraries.

This year marks the 46th Annual Big Book Sale and will be the largest sale to date. It will be held at Fort Mason’s Festival Pavilion, Sept. 22 – 26, 2010, with a member’s preview on Sept. 21. All books are $5 or less! All proceeds from the sale benefit the Library.

Litquake, the literary festival founded by Bay Area writers marks its 11th year in 2010 with a nine-day literary spectacle for book lovers, Oct.1 - 9. Litquake will present nearly 500 authors in a variety of venues including theaters, bars, bookstores, galleries & museums, alleys and the Main Library. Litquake events at SFPL include Kidquake, Teenquake and the Koret Reading Series.
