Summer Stride 2019

Summer Stride 2019

Thank you for making 2019 the best Summer Stride yet!

Summer Stride is the Library’s annual summer learning, reading and exploration program for all ages and abilities. From June 1 through August 18, 2019, we hosted over 1,000 free events to:

  • Deepen reading enjoyment
  • Spark STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning
  • Connect with mindful experiences in nature

Our robust 2019 Summer Stride Guide captures all of the programming throughout SFPL locations this summer.

Summer Stride tote Patrons were encouraged to pick up an activity tracker (PDF) to record a minimum of 20 hours of reading, listening and learning time, and work their way to a coveted finishing prize: the 2019 Summer Stride Library tote bag, featuring artwork by Zachariah OHora.

Check out San Francisco Unified School District's Summer Reading List (PDF) for great recommended reads.

Additionally, all library visitors were invited to enter a weekly raffle at their neighborhood library location. Raffle prizes included free passes to local museums, sporting events and attractions.

To experience the fun we had this summer, check out #SummerStride on Instagram or Twitter.

Summer Stride is funded in large part by Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, whose generous members and donors advocate, champion and invest in our premier urban Library system accessible to all.

SFPL partnered with Chronicle Books on the beautiful artwork for the Summer Stride. The artwork this year was by Zachariah OHora, illustrator of Bikes For Sale, by Carter Higgins.

The San Francisco Public Library, National Park Service, Presidio Trust and Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy teamed up again in 2019 to provide free shuttles from library branches to national park sites.
