May marks the 150th anniversary of what has become known as the "Golden Spike" the ceremonial 17.6-karat gold final spike driven by Leland Stanford to join the rails of the First Transcontinental Railroad across the United States connecting the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads.

The Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) has partnered with the San Francisco Public Library for APIA month to offer two short films about Chinese railroad workers and their substantial contributions to the construction of a transcontinental railroad system.

Join us for these two short films, followed by time to discuss and socialize.

Canton Army in the High Sierras (2001) 28 min.

The Golden Spike: The Chinese Contribution to the Transcontinental Railroad (2009) 8 min.
