Delilah Beasley spent 10-years travelling up and down California searching for stories about early African American pioneers. She published her book, The Negro Trail Blazers of California, in 1919 and then promoted it across the country. To celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the book's publication, Virginia Smyly of the San Francisco African American Historical and Cultural Society and Shawna Sherman, librarian with the African American Center at SFPL, will talk about Beasley's life and highlight early black pioneers in San Francisco with stories from Beasley's book.
