Job Guru Richard Bolles, author of What Color is Your Parachute? in Person at San Francisco Main Library, January 18, 2012

In the midst of the financial crisis, global recession and 12 percent unemployment, job seekers are facing historic challenges. Many are not only looking for work, but are confronting the reality of changing careers. How to succeed against such odds? Job guru Richard Bolles, best-selling author of What Color is Your Parachute: A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers reminds job seekers to focus on the part of the job search that they can control. As Bolles said in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, “There is always something you can do to improve your situation.”

Bolles will be appearing at a free lecture and hands-on workshop at 6 p.m., January 18, 2012, at the San Francisco Main Library, 100 Larkin St., San Francisco. Bolles will talk about jobs, job seeking, the economy, and anything else. Bolles will also be available after the talk to sign copies of What Color is Your Parachute

Now in its 40th edition, What Color is Your Parachute is considered the seminal job seekers resource and a classic book for career counseling. Parachute was honored as one of 25 Books That Have Shaped Readers' Lives by The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. In 2011, Parachute was named by Time magazine as one of the All-Time 100 Best Nonfiction Books.

If your New Year includes finding a job, the SFPL Jobs & Careers Center offers other workshops and resources to help you. Here is just a sample:
