Tech’d Out: laptop and wireless internet lending

San Francisco Public Library is piloting a program to allow patrons to check out laptops and mobile wireless internet hotspot (mifi) devices for use outside the library so that you can connect with the internet on your terms!

What’s in the bundle?

Contents of the bundle will circulate in a handy Tech’d Out laptop bag.

Where can I get one?

During the pilot program, bundles will be available for checkout and return* at the following SFPL locations:

*Note: Bundles MUST be returned to the original loaning location.

How does it work?

SFPL patrons who have library cards with borrowing privileges in good standing can borrow laptop/mifi bundles for up to three (3) weeks – just like borrowing a book or a DVD!

Patrons with Welcome or Digital Access cards are not able to borrow laptop bundles.

During the pilot program, laptop bundles will not be renewable, nor will patrons be able to request them through the library catalog.

Bundles will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at lending locations.

Bundles MUST be returned to a staff person at the original lending location during library open hours. Bundles should NOT be placed in bookdrops or into the return machine at the Main Library.

Laptops will ONLY connect to the mifi device included in the bundle, but patrons can connect other personal electronic devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.) to the mifi device.
