Month-long Performing Arts Festival Returns to SF Public Library

Entertainment and Learning for All Ages March 2014

San Francisco libraries welcome multi-media music, storytelling, circus performers, puppet shows and more throughout the month of March with the Performing Arts Festival 2014!   What do Wilco, Bob Dylan, The Polyphonic Spree, Lisa Loeb, Flock of Seagulls, Guided By Voices, and The Breeders have in common?  Each has shared show bills with Gustafer Yellowgold!  The library is tickled pink, um yellow, to welcome back Morgan Taylor, the award-winning cartoonist, songwriter, and creator of Gustafer Yellowgold. And the Gustafer Yellowgold performances will be rivalled by other top performers.   Gustafer Yellowgold’s Show is a multi-media performance of live music, animated illustrations, and storytelling.  Hailed by The New York Times as a “Cross between ‘Yellow Submarine’ and Dr. Seuss,” the shows are a must-see for families who love groovin’ and boppin’ together.  With its unique crossover appeal, the show entertains all ages. Gustafer Yellowgold will be featured in six performances plus a teen workshop.   Come sing with the beloved bilingual recording artist, educator and children’s author José-Luis Orozco! Children and families will sing and dance to Jose-Luis' Spanish and English music rooted in Latin American culture. His music combines rhymes, movements, and rhythm with information, such as the alphabet, vowels, numbers, and colors. These four concerts will be a delight for the entire family.   Acrobatics, juggling, balancing, contortion, and more will be performed by Wayne Huey of Red Panda Acrobats and by the kids and teens of Circus Center’s Youth Circus. The Youth Circus will thrill with aerial acts, clowns, face painting, and a chance to join the circus at the skills workshop following the performance.   And finally, by popular demand, five puppet troupes are returning to SFPL to amuse and amaze. Magical Moonshine Theatre performs traditional European-style hand-and-rod puppet theatre. Sean’s Shadows creates tales with light and shadow from around the world. The Fratello Marionettes both educate and delight with puppets and puppeteers in full view. Ventriloquist, Tony Borders, brings some crazy critters and a magical picnic with Muppet-style hand puppets.   Please see complete calendar, as follows. For more information, call 415 557-4277.
