Take Pride in Your Library - Celebrate Pride with the queerest library ever

For Immediate Release: May 30, 2018 Media Contact: Katherine Jardine (415) 557-4295;
San Francisco, CA – The queerest library ever honors Pride with more than 30 programs for all ages, including special Drag Queen Story Hours, creative crafter-noons, a host of film screenings, a Wikipedia edit-a-thon, Eureka Valley’s Open House and a launch party celebrating the new LGBTQ Fiction Collection at the San Francisco Main Library. The Library’s James C. Hormel LGBTQIA Center celebrates Pride with RADAR Superstar on June 7, the annual birthday bash for superstar and emerging writers. Featured on the stage of the Main Library’s Koret Auditorium will be Arisa White, Grace Twoers, Brontez Purnell and Jewelle Gomez. The Center continues the excitement with Sprightly on June 17, a re-occurring multi-purpose craft program for LGBTQIA young adults ages 18-25. RADAR Productions presents two Drag Queen Story Hours at the library this month. Take the whole family to these crowd-pleasing events at the Library’s newest branch, Public Knowledge, located inside SFMOMA and at Eureka Valley/Harvey Milk Memorial branch during their Open House. This year, in addition to screening popular films and classics like Milk and Priscilla Queen of the Desert, we’re celebrating the works of award-winning local lesbian documentary filmmaker, educator, and activist Debra Chasnoff during the Library’s “Thursdays at Noon” film series in the Main Library’s Koret Auditorium with Straightlaced, That’s a Family and Let’s Get Real. Look for the Library’s contingent in the Pride parade on June 23, and if you’re interested in helping our team be the best of the bunch, join us for a Pride Parade prep party at Excelsior Branch on June 17. For a full list of Pride programs, events and book selections, visit our Pride page. Events are also listed on the Library’s online calendar.  While enjoying events at the library, peruse our renowned LGBTQIA collection and check out a book, video, eBook and more. Pride programs are supported by Friends of the San Francisco Public Library. All events are free and open to the public.
