SUMMARY:Presentation: Solar Maximum
DESCRIPTION:
Discover the Sun's 11-year cycle, with a focus on the solar maximum phase when solar flares and coronal mass ejections reach their peak. The Sun is currently at its maximum in the solar cycle. What does that mean, and what are the effects for us? Learn about their effects on space weather, satellite systems, power grids and communication networks and gain insights on how to prepare for future solar events.

Dr. Matthew Fillingim is a research physicist at the Space Sciences Laboratory at UC Berkeley. He also teaches physics and astronomy at Berkeley City College. Matt earned his PhD in Geophysics from the University of Washington, and his MS and BS in Space Sciences at the Florida Institute of Technology. His primary research interests lie in all the interesting phenomena that can occur in the uppermost atmospheres of planets.
