DESCRIPTION:<p>Experience an afternoon of storytelling and performance inspired by opera highlighting creative community voices and fresh interpretations of classic works. The Opera Unbound Showcase features participants from <i>The Opera in You</i> writing workshops sharing original stories, alongside a staged reading by <i>Page to Stage</i> book club participants of <i>When You’re the King, They Let You Do It</i>, a new translation of Victor Hugo’s <i>Le Roi s’amuse</i>, the play that inspired Verdi’s <i>Rigoletto</i>. Translated and directed by Teaching Artist Marissa Skudlarek, <i>When You’re the King, They Let You Do It</i>, brings deeper meaning and timely parallels to the Verdi classic that opened our 103rd season in September 2025.&nbsp;</p><p><a href="https://www.sfopera.com/"><strong>San Francisco Opera</strong></a>’s Department of Engagement + Connectivity presents <i>Opera Unbound</i>, a series of free community programs offered in partnership with libraries and community centers across the Bay Area.&nbsp;</p>
