SUMMARY:Workshop: Kalat Poetry
DESCRIPTION:
This mixed media workshop will help us explore the spaces within our identities and cultural backgrounds and express them through poetry and collage. Inspired by blackout poetry and mixed media art, this poetry form is a way to create meaning out of mess and reclaim our kalat. Whether you're a seasoned poet or are looking for a new way to express yourself, this is a workshop welcoming all levels and ages. Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring and share from your own collage collection.

In Tagalog, kalat means clutter. It's a word often used to describe the messy spaces we're told to hide.

Dina Klarisse Dugar is a Bay Area–based writer whose work explores the intersections of language, history, and identity. Her writing has appeared in publications including Arizona State University’s Canyon Voices, Marias at Sampaguitas, and Chopsticks Alley. She is the author of the poetry chapbook, Handspun Rosaries (2022). She serves on the Board of Directors for Philippine American Writers and Artists, Inc. (PAWA) and is a member of the organizing committee for the Filipino American International Book Festival.
