SUMMARY:Votes for Women
DESCRIPTION:
This poster display discusses the fight for a woman's right to vote. Presented both by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and the National Archives, these posters tell the story of the woman's struggle to gain the right to vote from the mid-19th Century to ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920 to how it affects life today.

These displays commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. The exhibition addresses women's political activism over the centuries an explores the racism that challenged universal suffrage. It traces the ratification of the 19th Amendment which prohibits the government from denying U.S. citizens the right to vote on the basis of sex. Votes for Women touches upon the suffrage movement's relevance to current conversations on voting rights across America today.
