Keenan Norris reads from his new book, The Confession of Copeland Cane, described by Wendy Jean Fox, BuzzFeed Books, as “A significant new voice in fiction, Norris has written what may be one of the defining novels of the era at the intersection between Black Lives Matter and COVID-19” and by Michael Datcher as a “potent cocktail of lyrical dexterity, societal critique and fascinating characters [The Confession of Copeland Cane] brings to mind Ishmael Reed’s classic ‘Mumbo Jumbo.’" After the reading, Norris discusses the book, with an audience Q&A to follow.
Keenan Norris’ latest novel is The Confession of Copeland Cane. Norris' first novel, Brother and the Dancer, won the 2012 James D. Houston Award and he served as editor of the critical anthology Street Lit: Representing the Urban Landscape. He's been a fellow with Yerba Buena's Center for the Arts, the Callaloo Writers Workshop and the Public Voices program. His editorials and essays have appeared in the Los Angeles Times and Los Angeles Review of Books, Alta, LitHub, Electric Literature and Remezcla. Norris teaches American literature and creative writing at San Jose State University.
