<p><a href="https://sfpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/search?query=Norris%2C%20Keenan%2C&searchType=author">Keenan Norris</a> reads from his new book, <a href="https://sfpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S93C4810864"><em>The Confession of Copeland Cane</em></a>, described by Wendy Jean Fox, BuzzFeed Books, as &ldquo;A significant new voice in fiction, Norris has written what may be one of the defining novels of the era at the intersection between Black Lives Matter and COVID-19&rdquo; and by Michael Datcher as a &ldquo;potent cocktail of lyrical dexterity, societal critique&nbsp;and fascinating characters [The Confession of Copeland Cane] brings to mind Ishmael Reed&rsquo;s classic &lsquo;Mumbo Jumbo.&rsquo;" After the reading, Norris discusses the book, with an audience Q&A to follow.</p>

<p>Keenan Norris&rsquo; latest novel is <em>The Confession of Copeland Cane</em>. Norris' first novel, <a href="https://sfpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/search?query=Norris%2C%20Keenan%2C&searchType=author"><em>Brother and the Dancer</em></a>, won the 2012 James D. Houston Award and he served as editor of the critical anthology Street Lit: Representing the Urban Landscape. He's been a fellow with Yerba Buena's Center for the Arts, the Callaloo Writers Workshop and the Public Voices program. His editorials and essays have appeared in the <em>Los Angeles Times</em> and <em>Los Angeles Review of Books</em>, <em>Alta, LitHub, Electric Literature </em>and <em>Remezcla</em>. Norris teaches American literature and creative writing at San Jose State University.</p>
