While AI can bring many benefits, there are also several downsides, including the risks that it will perpetuate or amplify existing biases. This talk will discuss the sources of bias in AI and how to combat it, as well as discuss some of the positive use cases for AI, such as addressing tough environmental challenges and increasing accessibility for people with disabilities.

Scott Mauvais was previously the director of AI and Global Partnerships for Microsoft Philanthropies and Microsoft Cities, where he worked with city leaders to apply the global resources and expertise of Microsoft to foster the civic tech ecosystem and create opportunities for economic growth. Mauvais serves on the national boards of Upwardly Global and the Urban Age Institute and co-owns of The WELL.
