SUMMARY:Panel: Grotto Nights at the Library: A Conversation with Writers
DESCRIPTION:<p>Grotto Nights is a monthly series at the Library featuring <a href="https://www.writersgrotto.org/"><u>The Writers Grotto</u></a> members who will showcase and discuss their writing around a theme of their choice. This month features Terry Tierney, Pia Chatterjee and Sophia Raday on Why We Love Mysteries: The Genre and Motif of Discovery.</p>

<p><strong>Terry Tierney </strong>born in South Dakota and raised in Minneapolis and Cleveland has had his stories and poems published in over seventy literary journals. He holds a PhD in Victorian Literature from Emory University and has taught college composition and creative writing. Additionally, he has worked as a software engineering manager in Silicon Valley. Tierney is the author of <em>The Poet's Garage</em> (a poetry collection) and the novel <em>Lucky Ride</em>. His upcoming novel T<em>he Bridge on Beer River</em> is set to be published in July 2023. He resides in Oakland with his wife, two Persian cats and a lively Golden Retriever.</p>

<p><strong>Pia Chatterjee</strong> is a writer and essayist and a member of the SF Writers Grotto. Her work has been published or is upcoming in <em>CNN</em>, <em>San Francisco Chronicle</em>, <em>7X7</em>,<em> Alta Magazine</em>, <em>Zyzzyva</em>, <em>Hyphen </em>and other outlets. She has participated in Litquake in San Francisco and attended workshops at Tin House and Bread Loaf. Chatterjee has received the Ledge prize for fiction, named the Emerging fellow at San Francisco Writers Grotto and was a finalist for the Bread Loaf-Rona Jaffe Foundation award. She holds a B.A. in English Literature from Oxford University and an MFA from UC Riverside. She resides in San Francisco with her husband and son.</p>

<strong>Sophia Raday</strong> is a proud member of The Writers Grotto and the author of <a href="https://sfpl.bibliocommons.com/item/show/2233513093"><em><u>Love in Condition Yellow: A Memoir of an Unlikely Marriage</u></em></a> (Beacon Press 2009). She is currently working on a cozy mystery set in the Bay Area featuring retired women cops. Through her SheFlexx social media accounts she celebrates the joy and power of experienced women. Her work has been featured in outlets such as <em>The New York Times,</em> <em>Slate</em> and <em>Politico</em>.</p>
