DESCRIPTION:<p>Nalo Hopkinson discusses her new book, <i>Jamaican Ginger and Other Concoctions, </i>with&nbsp;Michele Tracy Berger, author of <i>Doll seed: Stories </i>as part of the Sistah Scifi Series. &nbsp;</p><p><a href="https://www.nalohopkinson.com/ ">Nalo Hopkinson</a> writes science fiction, fantasy, speculative fiction; call it whatever you want, her novels and stories are full of the unreal, the futuristic, the unlikely, the impossible. She was born in Jamaica, in the Caribbean and lived for years in Guyana as well, and in Trinidad/Tobago. But the bulk of her life so far has been spent in Toronto, Canada. She has won numerous awards for fiction and other literary activities. Some of her recent books include <a href="https://sfpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S93C6427128 "><i>Blackheart Man</i>, <i>Greedy Choke Puppy</i></a>, and <a href="https://sfpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S93C3025703"><i>Falling in Love With Hominids</i></a>, and <a href="https://sfpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S93C3025703 "><i>Greedy Choke Puppy</i></a>. She’s been a maker of 3-dimensional objects for most of her life.&nbsp;</p><p><a href="https://www.micheletracyberger.com/ ">Michele Tracy Berger</a> has been recently named Eric and Jane Nord Family Professor in the Department of Religious Studies and director of the Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities at Case Western Reserve University. Her research, teaching, and practice all focus on intersectional approaches to studying areas of inequality, especially racial and gender health disparities.&nbsp;Her latest book is <i>Doll Seed: Stories </i>will be released in October by Aunt Lutte Press.<i>&nbsp;</i>Other<i> </i>books include <a href="https://sfpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S93C4395740 "><i>Workable Sisterhood&nbsp;</i></a>and the Sci-Fi Horror novelette, <a href="https://sfpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S93C5691286 "><i>The Girl Who Won an Alien</i></a>. She currently serves on Ms. Magazine’s Committee of Scholars.&nbsp;</p><p>The Sistah Scifi Series, celebrates Black women authors in speculative fiction. Sistah Scifi is the first Black owned bookstore focused on science fiction and fantasy in the United States.&nbsp;</p>
