Explore Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s classic opera, Don Giovanni, in a 90-minute presentation by scholar and musicologist Derek Katz.

 

Dr. Derek Katz is an Associate Professor of Music History at the University of California, Santa Barbara, from which he received his PhD in 2000. He also holds a degree from Harvard and has studied at The Free University of Berlin on a Fulbright Fellowship. A specialist in Czech music, Dr. Katz has published articles in Musical Quarterly and in multiple Czech journals. A violist who plays in an amateur string quartet in the summer, he has also contributed chapters to books on Nineteenth Century Chamber Music as well as to Janáček and His World. Additionally, he studies mid-20th century institutional support for professional string quartets in the United States.
