A panel of volunteers with the Prisoners Literature Project have a candid discussion around restrictions our criminal legal system places on reading and what we do to get books inside. Hear about our lessons learned from nearly forty years of sending books to prisoners across the country and battles the Prisoners Literature Project and our partner organizations across the nation have waged against prison censorship.

The Prisoners Literature Project is an inclusive, all-volunteer, grassroots nonprofit whose purpose is to encourage reading, the pursuit of knowledge, and self-determination among incarcerated people. By sending free reading materials to those behind bars, PLP aims to foster learning and critical thinking and help prepare people to lead successful lives after incarceration. We believe that all people have a right to read.

One City One Book

Events and workshops curated around SFPL’s One City One Book selection. One City One Book: San Francisco Reads is a citywide literary event that encourages members of the San Francisco community to read the same book at the same time. For more information, see sfpl.org/onecityonebook.
