Kim Shuck and LisaRuth Elliott present a showcase of their Fall 2022 book of collaborative poetry and collages, What unseen thing blows wishes across my surface? Excerpts from the book, poems and original artwork will be on display.

In the spring of 2020, when the worldwide pandemic caused San Francisco to issue a stay-at-home order, it was a difficult period for writers and artists to work at all, yet here they were, posting daily work on social media. Through intentional listening it became clear to Kim and LisaRuth that the observations of the layers of forces acting on both of them as artists showed through. This book is a product of collaboration as the two artists worked in isolation.

Through the publication of a window into their experiences, Kim and LisaRuth encourage San Franciscans to contemplate their own lived experiences during the pandemic, a time in which we were forced to acknowledge the tangibility of our interconnectedness.

Kim Shuck is the seventh poet laureate of San Francisco Emerita. LisaRuth Elliott is a paper collage and textiles artist inspired by the stories and landscape of San Francisco, of Yelamu and its creatures.

This project is funded by the San Francisco Arts Commission.
