Kitty O’Meara and Luis Herrera discuss And The People Stayed Home, O’Meara’s new illustrated children’s book of her popular prose poem about the global coronavirus pandemic. Hear how O’Meara wrote the poem in one sitting on March 13, 2020 on her private Facebook page and soon spread internationally providing comfort. Noted as “the poet laureate of the pandemic " by O, The Oprah Magazine, Herrera and O’Meara will talk about living, healing and connecting. This program is presented in partnership with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy as part of the monthly Nature Boost series.

Kitty O’Meara lives in Full Moon Cottage, near Madison, Wisconsin on a river and a bike trail, with her husband, Phillip Hagedorn, their five dogs, three cats, gardens and books. A former teacher and chaplain and a spiritual director, O’Meara has been a lifelong writer, artist and blogger. And the People Stayed Home is her first print book.

Luis Herrera, beloved retired City Librarian of San Francisco Public Library, currently serves as a Board Trustee for the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and SFMOMA. He was appointed by President Obama to the National Museum and Library Services Board in 2012, the same year he was honored as Library Journal’s Librarian of the Year. Herrera is a passionate naturalist, community builder and champion for literacy.
