Water conservation is essential to create lovely livable gardens that can survive California’s droughts. Drought tolerant landscapes match plant needs to weather-based water supply with minimal additional watering.

 

Local San Francisco native plants are beautiful, drought tolerant, adapted to our varied soils, adapted to our varied weather and co-evolved with our local pollinators.

 

Susan Karasoff gardens in San Francisco’s clay soil. Karasoff is a member of the California Native Plant Society (CNPS) - Yerba Buena (San Francisco) chapter. Karasoff has an “only the easiest plants survive” approach to gardening and grows a buffet of colorful native edible and pollinator plants, specifically gardening to feed caterpillars, bees, hummingbirds and people.
