To celebrate the Chinese New year, learn Chinese New Year greetings and lucky phrases along with a fun hands-on activity: lantern making. This is a preview of our 8-part series Mandarin class which starts in February. In each class, learn basic Mandarin and Chinese culture while also having fun with hands-on activities.

Instructor Hsin-Yun Liu was born in Taiwan and graduated from the Department of Chinese Literature at National Taiwan University. She continued her graduate studies at the University of Cologne, Germany, where she earned her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees, majoring in General Linguistics, and minoring in Sinology and Phonetics. In 2008, she joined the City College of San Francisco (CCSF) faculty and is currently a tenured professor of World Languages and Cultures Department. Currently, she teaches Chinese and serves as the Chinese program coordinator. She has also been a part of the adjunct faculty at the San Francisco State University (SFSU) since 2014. She is a member of European Association of Chinese Linguistics (EACL) and also currently serves as the vice-president of the Chinese Language Teachers Association of California (CLTAC).
