Betty: They Say I'm Different

Betty Davis (1944 - 2022), original Funk Queen and one time wife of jazz legend Miles Davis, took on the American establishment of the 1970s and changed the course of women in music forever. Despite being banned and boycotted, she went on to become the first black woman to perform, write and manage herself.

bell hooks: Cultural Criticism & Transformation

bell hooks (1952 - 2021) was one of America's most accessible public intellectuals. In this lecture video filled with dozens of clips from popular films, she makes a compelling argument for the transformative power of cultural criticism and why she uses the phrase "white supremacist capitalist patriarchy" to describe the interlocking systems of domination that define our reality.
