Our partners at Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy explore the history of Chinese in the Bay Area.

San Francisco and the Bay Area was the first home to many Chinese immigrants. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, San Francisco’s power elite made several attempts to remove the Chinese community away from the city's most valuable and influential areas. Despite natural disasters, discrimination, and sustained efforts to displace Chinese Americans in San Francisco, they have survived and thrived in one of the most dynamic cities in the world. The contributions by Chinese Americans to the city and the country are seldom understood and recognized. National Park Service rangers will share how our parks tell their stories, which are our stories.
