Project management is one of the most sought after skills in today's job market. In 2018, for instance, there were over 50k jobs with the title of Project Manager. Moreover, many jobs list project management as a key skill. Having demonstrated project management skills serves as a key differentiator when applying for jobs. Finally, many people are project managers even if it's not part of their title or job description.

This presentation describes what everyday project management looks like, the skills needed to effectively lead projects and important project management certifications, such as the Project Management Professional or Certified Scrum Master. It also describes common strategies to pivot into the role of a project manager.

Tim Bombosch is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Scrum Master with 15+ years of experience managing projects for health care, tech, life science, higher education, publishing and utility organizations. He has taught project management for over 10+ years at UC Berkeley, where he managed Agile and Project Management professional education programs for 3 years. Tim takes his role as a career coach seriously. At Berkeley, he held regular workshops related to project management as a career and he has written and taught frequent courses related to career management.

Tim received his PhD at Stanford University and his BA at UT Austin. He has resided with his family in the Bay Area for over 30 years.
