Ruth Sasaki gives a brief overview of the WWII incarceration of Japanese Americans, then talks about her motivation for becoming involved with the Topaz Stories project, a collection of 70 stories by Topaz survivors and their descendants. She discusses the process of collecting and preserving these personal recollections of wartime incarceration and reads a few stories that have San Francisco connections.

Sasaki is the editor of the Topaz Stories project, the administrator of the Topaz Stories website, and curator of the Topaz Stories Exhibit currently on display in the Utah State Capitol through 2022. She is a third-generation San Franciscan, currently living in the East Bay, a Topaz descendant, and author of The Loom and Other Stories (Graywolf Press).
