Get Ready for a Summer of Self-Love with Author Virgie Tovar
Imagine a world where you truly believe there is nothing wrong with your body. Virgie Tovar author of The Self-Love Revolution: Radical Body Positivity for Girls of Color (New Harbinger Publications 2020) and You Have the Right to Remain Fat (Feminist Press 2018), shares her most surprising findings and tools from a decade dedicated to understanding why we are so afraid of being fat.
In addition to celebrating the work of Virgie Tovar with a live virtual event, we encourage all of SF to read her books, and to attend the On the Same Page Virtual Book Club, where we will discuss You Have the Right to Remain Fat, in which Tovar examines the link between fat phobia and diet culture and how women are taught to blame themselves, not society, for body shame. Get ready to love yourself and embrace all bodies! You can also catch Virgie Tovar hosting the podcast Rebel Eaters Club.

"I gradually learned that I was less than others because I was a fat brown girl. The lessons I learned about the inferiority of my fat body were brutal; the lessons I received about my racial and gender inferiority were subtle by comparison."
"you can’t find self-love by walking a path paved by self-hatred."
