SUMMARY:Author: Robert Elias, Major League Rebels: Baseball Radicals On & Off the Field
DESCRIPTION:
While Major League Baseball has a well deserved reputation for being the most conservative of America's major sports, there's a hidden history of rebellion in organized baseball. A number of ball players and others connected to the sport have spoken out and resisted and acted to protest injustices both on and off the field for issues of race, gender, sexuality, workers rights and American Empire. In their newly published books, Major League Rebels and Baseball Rebels, Rob Elias and and his co-author Peter Dreier, chronicle the hidden history of these baseball radicals, some of whom are profiled in this talk. The speaker at this talk is Rob Elias, Dean's Scholar and Professor of Politics at the University of San Francisco His previous baseball books include The Empire Strikes Out, The Deadly Tools of Ignorance and Baseball and the American Dream. Sponsored by Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).
