DESCRIPTION:<p>Join us for a special poetry reading about life and the world. The work is inspired by influence political figures, poets and people in the cultural arts. There is never a dull moment in life. Come and be inspired by the author's real life experience and stories.</p>

<strong>About the Poet: </strong><br />
Charles Curtis Blackwell is originally from San Francisco. He was first published in the <em>Sacramento Observer Newspaper</em> when he wrote an article about black students who graduated as a result of a school busing program. In 1967 he studied African American Literature at Sacramento City College where he discovered writer&rsquo;s of the Harlem Renaissance. His work has appeared in over 180 publications including Drum Voices Review, Revolutionary Poets Brigade, Poetry USA and African Commentary. He&rsquo;s published in theater plays, such as <em>Im&rsquo;ma Boxer</em>, <em>Respectfully Yours Loud Henry</em> and <em>The Color of Mississippi Mud</em>. He has conducted writer&rsquo;s workshops in California State Prisons and currently at Youth Spirit Artworks in Berkeley. His latest book is title, <em>The I in Us</em>, which includes nine stories that take place in Washington DC before the days of gentrification.<br />
