Presentation: The Right to Access Services in Your Language

Learn what is the Language Access Ordinance in San Francisco and how to advocate for your rights to access services in Spanish. Program in Spanish. 

Hear from OCEIA, the Office of Civic Engagement and Immigrant Affairs, that helps the City meet the Language Access Ordinance; and from CARECEN, a non-profit in SF that is part of LANSF, the Language Access Network. Digital and physical resources available at the Library in Spanish and for Limited English Proficient community members will be briefly presented too.

Connie Jozami is the Supervisor of the Language Access Unit at OCEIA. She has worked in various City Departments, including the Department of Elections, the Ethics Commission and the Department of Human Resources. She holds a Master of International Affairs (MIA) in Environmental Policy & International Politics from UC San Diego. She was a former intern with the United Nations Security Council, Department of Political Affairs (DPA) conducting financial, economic and policy analysis. Connie is a native Spanish speaker, born and raised in Santa Fe, Argentina.  

Rebecca Dean is a Case Manager in the Family Wellness Program at CARECEN (Central American Resource Center) in the Mission District, which is part of the Language Access Network (LAN) of San Francisco. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work and Community Organizing. Dean is originally from the Midwest. Her experience living in Central and South America and her connection with neighbors and friends who are immigrants led to her commitment to immigrant rights work. In Michigan, she served on the Steering Committee of the Michigan Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and helped create a local interfaith sanctuary coalition in her community.
