Explore alternative end-of-life choices with Final Exit Network: advocating for dignity and autonomy in peaceful passing.

While California's End of Life Option Act offers a legal pathway for patients seeking a peaceful death, many individuals across the country face challenges in accessing aid in dying due to strict criteria and limited availability of such laws. For over 25 years, Final Exit Network, stemming from the legacy of the Hemlock Society, has provided support to those seeking to hasten their own deaths, including individuals who may not be terminally ill. Discover how this vital organization navigates the complexities of end-of-life choices, ensuring that individuals' wishes are honored, legally enforceable, and respected. Whether exploring options for a peaceful passing or advocating for end-of-life autonomy, Final Exit Network stands as a beacon of support and empowerment for those facing profound decisions about their mortality.

Jim Van Buskirk, a retired SFPL librarian, has co-facilitated Death Cafes since 2016. He volunteers with Final Exit Network, a national right-to-die organization, and has presented programs on death and dying at various venues.
