The General Collections and Humanities Center offers a circulating and library-use-only collection of encyclopedias and dictionaries, and books covering the subjects of library & information science, journalism, arcane knowledge, philosophy, psychology, religion, social sciences, education, linguistics, literature, geography, travel, history, biography and more. Be sure and visit our African American Center and James C. Hormel LGBTQIA+ Center, also located on the third floor.

On Display at the Reference Desk
Be sure to visit us on the 3rd Floor for rotating curated book displays. Currently on display September-October 2024:
Phenomenal Woman: Maya Angelou. Books by and about Dr. Maya Angelou in honor of the installation of Portrait of a Phenomenal Woman, a new monument honoring Dr. Angelou by artist Lava Thomas. The monument will be located outside the Larkin Street entrance of the Main Library. It will feature a portrait of Dr. Angelou based on a 1973 interview with Bill Moyers, along with the words "Still I Rise" and an inspiring quote about the power of libraries and human connection. See the artist speak as part of a panel discussion on Women in Public Art, Thursday, November 7 at 6:00pm at the Main Library's Koret Auditorium.
