Grotto Nights at the Library: A Conversation with Writers

Mental Health in Fiction with Lee Kravetz and Jenny Bitner

Grotto Nights is a new monthly series at the Library featuring The Writers Grotto members who will showcase and discuss their writing around a theme of their choice.  This month features Lee Kravetz author of The Last Confessions of Sylvia P. and Jenny Bitner author of Here Is A Game We Could Play in conversation about mental health in fiction. The authors will discuss their work and invite the audience to participate in an activity related to the theme.

The Writers Grotto is a creative community of writers and artists based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Attendees are encouraged to learn more about the Grotto writing community by taking classes, attending Grotto events and participating in Rooted and Written.

Grotto Nights will take place the first Tuesday of the month, January through March 2023.

Jenny Bitner’s fiction and poetry has been published in Mississippi Review, The Fabulist, The Sun, Fence, Corium, Fourteen Hills, Mid-American Review and PANK. Pine Press published a chapbook of her poetry entitled Mother. Her story “The Pamphleteer” was published in Best American Nonrequired Reading. She is also a certified hypnotherapist. Her novel Here Is A Game We Could Play was published in 2021 from Acre Books. She teaches writing and hypnosis at the Writers Grotto.

Lee Kravetz is the author of the novel The Last Confessions of Sylvia P., as well as acclaimed nonfiction, Strange Contagion and SuperSurvivors. He has written for print and television, including The New York Times, New York Magazine, The Atlantic, Psychology Today, The Daily Beast, The San Francisco Chronicle, and PBS. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
