Spanish Language Collections & Resources at the Kresge Foundation International Center

The Kresge Foundation International Center, located on the 3rd floor of the Main Library, maintains a 10,000-item print collection of circulating and reference materials in the Spanish Language. There are over 7,000 non-fiction books on popular subjects such as computers, social media, psychology, Spanish grammar and slang, science, health, cooking, literary criticism, poetry, travel, history, and a biography collection. In addition, there is a specialized collection of Spanish-English dictionaries in subjects including health care, business, and computers.

The Spanish Fiction collection includes classic as well as modern works by authors from Spain and Latin America including Miguel de Cervantes, Gabriel García Márquez, María Luisa Bombal, Mario Vargas-Llosa, Carlos Fuentes, Juan Rulfo, Julio Cortázar, Jorge Luis Borges, Elena Poniatowska, Roberto Bolaños, Arturo Perez-Reverte and Carlos Ruiz Zafón. There is also a large number of Spanish translations of literature classics from other languages.

English as a Second Language Audiovisual Materials for Spanish Speakers

As part of its extensive collection, the Center also offers audiovisual materials specifically designed for Spanish speakers seeking to learn English such as Ingles sin Barreras and Living Language learning kits.

In addition, SFPL online language learning resources Mango Languages and Rosetta Stone offer English as a second language (ESL) self-paced courses for library users.

Clase Periódica: Offers access to magazine articles about science and the humanities published in periodicals from Latin America. Coverage is from 1975 to the present.

¡Informe!: This database includes an extensive collection of articles in Spanish in a variety of subjects including business, health, technology, culture, politics, and economics from 1999 to the present.

La Nueva Enciclopedia Cumbre: This is an extensive and up to date online encyclopedia for Spanish speakers.

RBdigital Magazines: Stream popular Spanish Language magazines on demand or download them to a mobile device for offline reading.

PressReader | (ProQuest): A collection of 4000 newspapers from 100 countries in 60 languages, many providing content in Spanish.

Library Programs in Spanish

The Kresge International Center currently presents the following recurring programs for Spanish speakers.

Rincon Literario is a Book Club for Spanish-speakers. All books discussed are available for checkout from the library’s collection.

Drop-In Computer Classes in Spanish is a program where library patrons receive one-on-one assistance in Spanish from library staff on how to use programs such as Word and Excel as well how to use email and navigate the Internet.
