Explore how Vulgar prioritizes collaborative efforts with various social justice collectives, including disability justice, trans justice, anti-racist and pro-sex worker groups. Discover how they utilize performance and arts-based facilitation to cultivate pleasurable spaces of knowledge-building and resistance.

Don't miss this opportunity to engage in dialogue and build inter-movement solidarity through sexuality work with anti-racist, disability, LGBTQIA+, pleasure, and sexual justice groups.

Melina Gaze is a queer performance artist, community organizer, and researcher. For many years and alongside collectives in New York and Mexico City, Gaze organized grassroots pleasure-focused workshops for women, trans, and nonbinary people. Since 2018, they have been collaborating on Vulgar with Suz Urrea, her BFF and intellectual crush. Gaze has over ten years’ of experience facilitating sexuality education groups, and their work has been featured on NPR, National Geographic and the Fader.

Suz Urrea (aka Sucia), co-director of Vulgar, is a non-binary disabled facilitator, artist, researcher and organizer. Urrea and Gaze (their BFF) launched Vulgar in 2018 to create spaces to connect with others and explore the intersections between sexual pleasure and social justice. Urrea brings to Vulgar over 10 years of experience facilitating educational and activist spaces and a deep commitment to collective knowledge-making. Although a PhD Candidate in Sociocultural Anthropology, Urrea is currently on a permanent hiatus from academia. In their free time, you can find them reading, perreando or at the jewelry studio.

The People's Book of Human Sexuality features a series of essays highlighting the historical and current work, strategies, solutions and thoughts of queer and BIPOC sexologists.
