In honor of Trans Day of Visibility the library and our partner LYRIC Center for LGBTQ Youth are screening I Am the Queen, a documentary centering the Vida/Sida Cacica Pageant held in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood which brings together members of the Puerto Rican community to celebrate its transgender participants.
Trans Day of Visibility on to celebrate and honor the lives of Trans & Gender Non-conforming people, who despite facing violence and discrimination, continue to lead with courage by forming loving, supportive and revolutionary communities.
Founded in 1988 LYRIC is one of the first and largest LGBTQQ youth centers in the country.
