A Book Talk in English with Chinese Subtitles in the Slides(農曆新年與二十四節氣 --- 英文演講 + 中文字幕)

Did you know why Lunar New Year is also known as the Spring Festival? And why are potted orchids must-have home decorations during the Lunar New Year? Let’s get the answers to these questions and more in the book talk by Crystal Tai, a Stanford alum and the author of Seasonal Living with Splendid Poetry. The bilingual book features the 24 solar terms, essentially micro-seasons, which have been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2016. Please join us for a delightful and insightful presentation on the 24 solar terms that have given seasonal living tips to the Chinese for thousands of years and still can bring health benefits as well as environmental awareness today. This is a family friendly event. The book and slides with many colorful images will appeal to children. Pre-teens (ages 10-12) may especially find the full-color book fascinating. We welcome your whole family!

Crystal Tai holds a Master’s degree in Education Policy with coursework in Journalism from Stanford University. She has worked as a local news reporter, a communications specialist in the high-tech sector, and a medical interpreter. She is also a Youtuber who frequently posts videos on her channel, Crystal Blue Sky. With exceptional bilingual skills, she has won two translation awards and written a few non-fiction books that introduce Chinese culture to English speakers, plus a historical novel titled Marco Polo in Love. Her latest book is Seasonal Living with Splendid Poetry, published in February 2024. Her next book (with the e-book version already available on Amazon), Insights into Suzhou Gardens, will come out in February 2025.
