Watch the Saturday afternoon matinee screening of Kintsukuroi, followed by a discussion with Kerwin Berk, director and independent filmmaker.

About Kerwin Berk:

Kerwin is a Sansei filmmaker who was born and raised in San Francisco's Japantown. He still calls The City his home. He is an award-winning journalist who worked at newspapers and wire services for more than 25 years. His final stop was at his hometown newspaper—The San Francisco Chronicle.

Today, he is a freelance writer and independent filmmaker. He has written, produced and directed award-winning films and web series such as “The Virtues of Corned Beef Hash” (2010), “Infinity & Chashu Ramen” (2012) and “Gold Mountain.”

His production company—Ikeibi Films—is dedicated to the idea that Asian Americans need to tell our own stories in their own voice using our own talent both in front of and behind the camera.

About Kintsukuroi:

With a stroke of his pen, President Roosevelt destroyed the lives of 120,000 Japanese Americans at the onset of World War II. From the windswept prison camps of the American West to the battlefields of Europe, KINTSUKUROI follows the lives of two of those families who lost everything except their dignity.

PG-13, 130 mins., 2024. Closed captions (CC) in English.
