Watch Wood Street, a documentary following a year in the life of Oakland’s largest unhoused encampment as residents face an eviction that threatens to dismantle their community.
As notices appear and police move in, residents organize, build barricades, file lawsuits and protest at City Hall in an effort to remain. Filmed using a cinéma vérité approach, the documentary centers on John and LaMonté as mounting pressure tests their friendship. LaMonté struggles with his mental health while John works to remain sober.
Following the screening, a moderated Q&A explores the making of the film, the Wood Street community and broader issues of housing, displacement and homelessness in the Bay Area.
