Join us in the heart of The City for a special lunchtime Poesía en Fulton St. Partake in the Friends of the Library Book sale, enjoy the Heart of The City Farmers’ Market and kick off ¡VIVA! at the Library.

Sara Borjas is a Chicana, a pocha, and a Fresno poet. She earned a BA in English Literature from Fresno State and an MFA from University of California, Riverside. She holds fellowships from CantoMundo, the Postgraduate Writers' Conference at Vermont College of Fine Arts and Community of Writers at Squaw Valley. Borjas is the recipient of the 2014 Blue Mesa Poetry Prize and is a three-time Pushcart Prize nominee. Her poetry can be found in The Rumpus, The Academy of American Poets Poem-a- Day Series, Ploughshares, and The Offing, amongst others. She lives in Los Angeles but stays rooted in Fresno.

 

Alan Chazaro is the author of This Is Not a Frank Ocean Cover Album (Black Lawrence Press, 2019), Piñata Theory (Black Lawrence Press, 2020), and Notes from the Eastern Span of the Bay Bridge (Ghost City Press, 2021). He is proudly Bay Area born and raised to Mexican immigrant parents and is a graduate of June Jordan’s Poetry for the People program at UC Berkeley, a former Lawrence Ferlinghetti Poetry Fellow at the University of San Francisco and currently a staff writer for KQED Arts and Culture.

 

soledad con carne is a casually queer, intergalactic Oakland/Ohlone-based chicanx punk poet working/poor multiple high school drop-out bookstore lackey, San Fernando Valley parking lot cryptid, and blatant smoker sharing-trauma-with-their-mother

 

Alderete  is a co-fouder of Medicine for Nightmares Bookstore and Gallery, a full-blooded Pocho, spanglish speaking poeta who first learned how to write poesía in the kitchen of his Mama’s Mexican restaurant. He was one of the founding members of  Bay Area outspoken word group The Molotov Mouths, and is the curator and host of the long-running monthly Chicano/Latinx reading series Speaking Axolotl. His book of poety Baby Axolotls & Old Pochos published by Black Freighter Press.

¡VIVA! at the Library is a celebration of Latinx heritage, cultures and traditions. San Francisco has a rich Latinx heritage that is highlighted in a diverse array of exciting programs for all ages, from Spanish/bilingual storytimes to cooking classes, author talks to art and cultural presentations.

Programs designed to celebrate the art of the poem, including readings and talks.
