Radon Detectors at SFPL

San Francisco Public Library offers free radon detectors for checkout, empowering patrons to easily test their homes for radon —an invisible, odorless and tasteless radioactive gas. This program is made possible through a partnership with the California Department of Public Health Indoor Radon Program, and aims to increase awareness and reduce the health risks associated with radon exposure.

What is radon?

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can enter any building, including homes, and is a leading cause of lung cancer. Because it can't be detected by human senses, testing is the only way to know if your home has elevated levels.
