6:00 - 7:00

Cecilia Gentili is joined by Aria Sa’id to discuss her new book Faltas: Letters to Everyone in My Hometown Who Isn’t My Rapist, an epistolary memoir about transgender childhood, sexual trauma, motherhood, and a young queer life in 1970s Argentina.

Cecilia Gentili is an advocate, organizer and storyteller working at the intersections of sex work, immigrant rights, incarceration issues and trans liberation. Originally from Argentina, Cecilia came to the United States and survived for 10 years as an undocumented immigrant, gaining a living through sex work. She has years of experience working in direct services with organizations like The LGBT Center and Apicha Community Health Center, which led to her moving into policy work, becoming the Director of Policy at GMHC before creating Trans Equity Consulting to advocate directly for better policy for trans people at the local, state and federal level. Cecilia is also a founding member of Decrim NY, a coalition working towards the decriminalization, decarceration and destigmatization of people in the sex trade. Cecilia recently published her epistolary memoir Faltas: Letters to Everyone in My Hometown Who Isn’t My Rapist (Little Puss, 2022) and has also performed in the hit FX Show Pose, in her one-woman show The Knife Cuts Both Ways, and in countless storytelling events across the country.

Aria Sa'id is an award-winning transgender advocate and political strategist based in San Francisco. She is a founder and the President of The Transgender District, the world’s first legally recognized district of its kind. Ms. Sa’id is also both a Board member of the Women’s Foundation of California, and an alum of its acclaimed Women’s Policy Institute fellowship program. In 2019, she was listed in the annual OUT100 which highlights 100 of the worlds influential LGBT leaders, and she is the youngest Black transgender woman recipient of Resolutions from the California legislature and Governor Gavin Newsom. In 2020, she was featured in Refinery29’s annual “Black is the New Black Power List” as one of 8 Black women in America to watch. Her work has been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, Forbes, Travel & Leisure, The Guardian, CNN, Huffington Post and more.
