Control a remote robot arm and learn about the basics of AI & Robotics! Join this 4-session course to take first steps in the exciting world of AI and Robotics in a course for beginners designed to expand your skills and digital literacy.  No programming or prior experience is required to participate. We will cover some of the basics of AI Robotics from teleoperating a real robot remotely to the basics of computer vision. This program offers a fun, no-code, practical way to learn how modern technologies in the field of robotics and AI are shaping our world.

Goals and Objectives:

  • Build Confidence and Digital Literacy: Discover some of the tools underlying modern AI & robotics. We explore how to interact with and understand the core aspects in robotics and AI in a beginner-friendly environment.
  • Hands-On Engagement: Run experiments by controlling and programming real robots using graphical interfaces. 
  • Explore New Technologies: Demystify AI and explore exactly how computers and robots “see” and understand the world.

Course Content:

 

Session 1: February 7 

  • Introduction to Robotics
  • Overview of some core AI technologies
  • Hands-on experience with remote robots
  • Robot teleoperation basics
  • Making a robot follow specific patterns

 

Session 2: February 14

  • Understand connectivity and control
    • What is a Web API? Everyday use cases.
    • How is a robot connected with an API? 
  • Coordinate systems in robotics
  • Basic graphical programming with Blockly
    • Robot Dance 
    • Area patrol
    • Path planning challenge
              

Session 3: February 21

  • How do robots see the world?
  • Understanding Image Pixels 
  • Image background removal 
  • Contours and finding center points of objects
  • Pick and place challenge

 

Session 4: February 28

  • Detecting objects in a camera image
  • AI robotics and computer vision experiments 
  • How will Robotics & AI shape the world?
