Richie Unterberger, rock historian and author presents rock performers based in Asia, as well as rock by Asian Americans and others of Asian descent. Unterberger covers artists based in or from more than half a dozen countries, covering genres from rockabilly, indie rock, girl groups, progressive rock, singer-songwriters, synth-pop and more. Spotlighted performers include Shonen Knife, Yoko Ono, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Kyu Sakamoto, Damo Suzuki (of Can), Fanny, the 5.6.7.8.'s, Dengue Fever and Norah Jones.
Richie Unterberger has been writing rock and popular music of all kinds for more than 25 years. He has contributed to various publications, including MOJO, Record Collector, Pulse, rollingstone.com, the San Francisco Bay Guardian, the Rough Guide to Rock, The Rough Guide Book of Playlists, the East Bay Express and others. Unterberger has written liner notes to several hundred CD reissues. He has been interviewed for recent film documentaries on the Byrds, Tim Buckley, Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention, the Doors, Neil Young and more. He has traveled to more than thirty countries, and is a passionate advocate of independent travel and alternative culture in general. He lives in San Francisco.
