Explore how speculative techniques can open new possibilities for personal writing. Inspired by Awake in the Floating City by Susanna Kwan, SFPL's 2026 One City One Book selection, participants will explore the concept of the speculative memoir through guided writing exercises and small-group discussion. Experiment with techniques such as distancing and fictionalization to approach memories and lived experiences from fresh perspectives. No previous writing experience or familiarity with the novel is required, though readers may discover additional connections.
